Always on the move. HiTT Academy prepares for next Table Tennis challenges

30/07/2018

HiTT Academy is once again on the move, preparing to reach new heights for the coming season. Our players have worked hard during the past months, and their efforts have paid off, clutching many titles in Maltese table tennis events and making a presence also abroad. Let’s take a look at what’s been happening in the table tennis scene, both locally and internationally.

4 HiTT Academy Players in the European Youth Championships 2018

During the past weeks we welcomed real world class players for some tough sparring and exchange of ideas, then just a few days later four of our best players packed their bags to take part in the European Youth Championships in Romania, where they represented Malta in two different events.

We were proud to see Sean Debono, Rachel Mifsud and twin brothers Isaac and Gabriel Grixti put on the National team kits as they prepared to face opponents from different European countries in Cluj, Romania. For HiTT Academy and our players, this is the penultimate result of hard work that has been part of a four year project that started in 2014.

19 gold medals in the Malta Junior National Championships for HiTT Academy

The results of our collective hard work and determination are obvious. HiTT Academy climbed higher and higher in the top tournaments of the year, culminating with the 2018 Junior National Championships, where our amazing players brought home 19 titles as well as 9 silver medals.

These amazing results reconfirm HiTT Academy as the most successful table tennis centre in Malta. Long months of tough training and hard work have paid off. Well done to all the players who took part in these championships and also to the parents for their unfailing support.

2018 ISF World School Championship

Last April, players Isaac and Gabriel also took part in the 2018 ISF World School Championship held in Malta with distinctive performances against top countries such as China Taipei, England, India and Slovakia also winning a number of sets on the way.

HiTT Academy head coach Mario Genovese completed the ITTF Level 2 Course with top marks.

The intense 5-day course was organised by the ITTF Development Programme and supported by Olympic Solidarity. The course was held in Valletta between Monday 30th October and Saturday 4th November. It was conducted by Aleksey Yefremov, one of Russia’s leading table tennis coaches.

International training camps

Year after year, HiTT Academy continues to organise camps abroad that give our players exposure to different table tennis styles and techniques. In August 2018, two separate teams will be leaving to Dordrecht in Holland and to Ioannina in Greece to participate in major international camps led by experienced and respected coaches.

HiTT Academy Summer Camp 2018

In the meantime, here at our home base we’re busy as well. The 2018 HiTT Academy Summer Camp is well underway. This year, the super packed camp is led by coach Ivan Malagoli Lanzoni from Italy. Ivan, who coached the Italian national team and has vast international experience, is conducting 12 lessons per week with intense morning and evening training sessions.
