Build the skills behind a more consistent game.

Good table tennis starts with repeatable fundamentals and develops through practice, feedback and decisions at the table.

Start with the basics

  • A comfortable grip and ready position.
  • Controlled forehand and backhand strokes.
  • Moving into position and recovering after a shot.
  • A legal, repeatable serve.

Develop your decisions

  • Recognise the spin and placement of the incoming ball.
  • Choose a controlled response before increasing pace.
  • Explore how serve and return shape the rally.
  • Adjust tactics to your opponent’s playing style.

Make practice purposeful

Pick one aspect to work on with your coach, practise it in a controlled exercise, then try applying it in a game. Review what worked and what needs another session.

Tactics depend on your strengths, experience and opponent—not on assumptions about gender.
